)Hi all, Hi Will,I would be interested to know ‘which’ Pro DSLRs have you got that had ‘viewfinder image’ problems? As you say, your problem may not be with the actual screen itself. (I can’t see how it can be, as nearly EVERYONE would have complained about this by now! – not just some new DSLR owners on the web.) Obviously, when you read any internet posts on ‘viewfinder’ problems, you will have to try and distinguish between the ones that sound like users reporting bad/cheaply made ‘dim’ viewfinders or similar, and posts that may be similar to your ‘manual focus via AF screen/viewfinder’ issue. Apart from previous suggestions, it can only now be something like:1. Incorrect eyepiece diopter (or diopter setting), making them worse to use for you, or ‘alignment fault in the viewing ‘light path’ in the particular DSLR cameras you have problems with – whether bought used or new.2. A user error/incorrect technique, (seems unlikely based on what you told us.)3. An eyesight problem, that does not SHOW itself in ALL cameras – maybe because the eyepieces are not the ’standard diopter’ HENCE in this case they seem to ‘work for you’ while other more ’standard eyepieces’, (Nikon’s are usually +1diopter – AS STANDARD), do not seem to work well for you. (If so, this would mean any cameras you use would need the eyepieces changed from the ’standard’ to whatever + or – diopter value was best for you.)4. Other more ‘unusual’ faults that could cause viewing problems include, accidental impact, incorrect seating of focus screen (can happen in even a NEW camera!), pentaprism not correctly seated/fitted, (due to impact, manufacturer error or bad repair), distorted or deformed interior chassis/sub assembly, (due to excessive heat, impact, fault in manufacture, or bad repair etc.)The answer in the end may be a simple one, but eliminating all the possibilities that it ‘could be’ MAY help find the problem. As you stated, “..my Pro DSLR finders are not even close to the viewing quality of that cheap camera. I find that really hard to understand..”So do I !
You also said, “..I know its not an isolated issue, people post to Flickr discussionswondering why..”About ‘photo’ groups/forums….There are good and bad. some have experienced photographers and experienced technical people – others are full of mostly new/recent camera users and a few egomaniacs. People regularly post to Flickr/Photo.Net/Yahoo groups/other etc. about various ‘problems’ they ’say’ they have – until some kind sole tells then how to do or use something correctly! The internet can be great at confusing the issue – and the uninformed !
Some ‘problems’ posted on web groups, especially from new users etc. can be due to not reading the manual, lack of experience or even laziness! You have to weed out the ‘real’ faults/problems from ‘user/new user errors’!
Dont rely on one ‘thread’ or one site/person – verifiy the facts with other sources before making any decisions that may affect how YOU do things… Good luck!Regards,Geoff.:-)[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]Messages in this topic (12)________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________——————————————-You can unsubscribe by sending ANY message to NikonRepair-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com (optinally follow this link mailto:NikonRepair-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com and hit send!)————————————————————————Yahoo!
